My Big Fat Geek Wedding

November 17, 2009 by Nick the Geek at 6:00 am 22 Comments My Big Fat Geek Wedding #MyExperienceAs #disabledfeatured #GeekAlert #GeekFacts via @Nick_theGeek

So this week I am officiating my first wedding. I am really looking forward to this but I’m also very nervous. I really want the couple to work out but there isn’t any way for me to ensure that beyond counseling and Godly encouragement and prayer. Having done all of that I think the most important thing is to geek out the rehearsal and revel in the geek wedding that could have been.

First and foremost you must know that I was asked because of who I am and not the title I hold. Any happenings that happen will be done with utmost respect to the sanctity of the union and the couple who will be joined in marriage.

That said, I will be reenacting the wedding scene from the Princess Bride during the rehearsal. This is a must. If you are not familiar with the scene please watch the clip. If you are familiar with it you will want to watch anyways because it is amazing.

Now that is about geek level one. It isn’t enough. I’ll be meeting with the bride today to discuss the vows and order of service. I’m hoping she’ll go with some of my suggestions. Let me know what you think?

This. Is. Your. Best. Post….EVER. Please video yourself doing the wedding rehearsal in the Princess Bride theme. I heart that movie and if that won't be FOTTSP worthy-nothing ever will be.

Will you wear the big hat, too? You need the big hat. And I'm with Marni – we need video evidence.

Unfortunately they do know. It would be much better if they didn't but I felt it was important to ask, and by ask I mean that I immediately launched into the scene when they asked me and then swore I wouldn't do that during the (stress the following word) wedding. The bride is pretty quick on the uptake and guessed that meant I would do it during the rehearsal and said "we need ot have at least one serious practice during the rehearsal.

I don't have a man yet, but you are totally invited to my wedding rehearsal when I find one. (But you're not invited to the wedding, because as long as I've waited, I couldn't risk a scene…) 😉

I would never, and have never, make a scene. I'm much to calm and polite to makes a scene.

Wow, "Indigo" Montoya left a comment. That is almost as cool as Inigo Montoya, the character from The Princess Bride. Indigo is a wicked cool color though.

Love this and like others, I HOPE there is some video – because the rehearsal will rock. Now are these "kids" you've been watching grow up in your church, are they older than you… oh so many questions. Guess I'll have to wait for the video. Could be as big as FlyWheel! My 16 year old wedding was small and serious, even had an Eastern Orthodox Priest…because that’s all we could find in SanFranciso. He had a cool robe and hat – kinda like the Princess Bride dude. BUT if I could redo my wedding – it would be themed to Xanadu – we would all wear roller skates and I could look awesome like Olivia.
