So youth was tonight but things were quite a bit different. We have flood and freeze warnings going on depending on your elevation so church was more or less canceled. I figured some people would be there regardless so I went and we had like 30 students show up. I took them up to the sanctuary where about 4 adults showed up. We had service up there and things generally went well. More than well at some points as we had a great altar time with about 10 students and 2 others acknowledging they needed Jesus to forgive them. I would say got saved but I know the one has prayed the “sinner’s prayer” before but I’m not sure about the other. I didn’t get the opportunity to speak with him after, but I will soon.
Before and after service we were in the Youth building, but the thing is, something is dead in there. I have taken the place apart to find the stench but nothing. I went through cleaning everything today, threw out a bunch of stuff, cleaned out the storage areas, and took apart parts of the platform but couldn’t find the dead thing. It’s like it can move because after sniffing around it seems like it is strongest in one area so you tear the platform apart trying to find the stink and then it smells worse somewhere else. I’m going insane trying to find this odor.
- I can haz dead things.
I have had to deal with some seriously rank stuff when I worked at a Bible college. At one point the guys in one dorm put human crap in the microwave of another dorm and turn it on for a very long time. We didn’t try to clean it. We didn’t even open it. It went into the dumpster. Another time someone put a fish in the heat return. The thing is, every time I’ve been able to find the source of the malodorous prank, but it has been 4 weeks and the smell remains. I don’t know if it is of natural origin or if someone has somehow rigged a prank of epic means, but I’m gonna burn the place down soon.
It seems like there is some spiritual meaning I could draw form this but right now I can still smell it and I’m trying to decide how hard it would be to make the fire look like an accident.
~edit~
I needed to address the reason why guys think it is so funny to make other people smell really nasty stuff.

Have you looked in the curtain rails?
‘Cos that’s where I would hide the dead fish if I was being really sneaky.
Not that I have ever done anything like that before of course.
Nick the Geek says
Fortunately there are no curtain rails and it is not dead fish. I got my eye on you now. From: notifications@intensedebatemail.comTo: p4c@hotmail.comSubject: My Experience As … – New comment requires moderation on: The gift that keeps on giving: something dead

I have no idea what or where.
I'm sorry you have to put up with the stench.
Nick the Geek says
Yeah me to. It really is rank, although not the worst thing I've ever smelled.

That's just bad news. Once my uncle put a dirty diaper under my car seat… it was July. That was just wrong and it took me too long to figure out it wasn't the nearby "cows". Ugh.
Okay, I hope it's an old rotting tuna sandwich or something and not a dead animal in the wall (which also happened to me once). Ummmm, death – such a yummy aroma.
PS: is there an ice-chest around the area? check that!
Nick the Geek says
All the trash has been taken out and the fridge searched as well as other potential places for old food. No ice chests either. At least it isn't a well ages dirty diaper. With 4 kids we've had a few of those.

Ha! I laughed at the crap in the microwave. That was done at my Christian college, except the microwave was at the small cafe in the student union. I'm pretty sure they had to replace it. Awful smells are part of the college experience, namely, subjecting someone else to them.
Nick the Geek says
Smells are part of the guy experience, namely subjecting other guys to them.

The radio station where I worked a few years ago was in the middle of a cornfield and there would often be critters sneak in the building somewhere and die. Maintenance went nuts trying not only to find them to get rid of the smell, but also to find all the holes and plug them up. It had been in serious disrepair for years and went off the air for almost a year when the company I worked for bought the station. I left before the smells did 🙂
Did you check crawlspaces or attics?
Bridget says
Ewww! I think a bad smell is one of the worst things to deal with. I'm super sensitive to nasty odors…. sorry I'm not there to help *cough*!
Nick the Geek says
Well, if you care that much I'd be happy to try and bottle the scent and ship it too you. It could be my first blog give away.
Nick the Geek says
Hmmm, at least the smell didn't leave when you did.
No crawlspace and I did look in the attic space, but it isn't easy to see every part with the insulation.
Also, what do you think of the site?
@gmbrannan says
Pretty cool. Are you using wordpress now?
Nick the Geek says
Yep I'm in WP now. I was almost snarky but I decided to be nice.
