A couple days ago I posted a writing exercise and got some great feedback. I feel that I learned a lot and want to say thanks to everyone who commented or sent me an email with critique. I think some people were worried that I might be offended, but trust me when I say that I know I am not a great writer. I don't have the training, which is why I put the exercise out there so I could learn, and I learned a lot more than I had expected. I also got a lot of feedback suggesting that I pursue the story line, making it more than just a short story. Thanks to everyone who commented, tweeted, or … [Read more...]
I have learned that certain things I loved as a kid I now dislike, but I've also noticed that many of these things are fun again when I experience them with my kids. Snow is certainly one of those … View Gallery

The Camouflage Shrub Angel Squad
One of the reasons I started a new blog was to begin exploring my writing. I do several writing experiments including a book that I am writing. My plan with this book is to make it available for free and accept editing tips with revised editions. I don't know that my goal is to every be a published writer but I do want to be a good writer. It is something I enjoy so I want to do it well. To that end I saw a comment over at Stuff Christians like that made my snicker a bit and them leave a snarky reply. That happens a lot but today I decided I would turn it into a short story. One of the … [Read more...]
I believe in Santa … do you?
Ok so tonight was wild. The students were wound up like nobody's business. At one point I ended up really laying into them because it was terrible. I feel a bit bad but seriously, even the "good" ones were being a serious problem. After I laid into them it was better. The sad part is I was loud enough that they all shut up and I didn't even use my mic for that part. I don't really need it but I use it so I can speak softly and still be heard. Anyways, we were mythbusting Santa and let me tell you, St. Nick is a bad a$$. He is my new hero. They guy lived before Christmas but also lived to … [Read more...]
Give Away
OK so I've been wanting to do a giveaway for a while, but I can't really think of anything. I put it out on twitter last night and got a couple of good suggestions, but I'm interested in more ideas so here's the deal, I have 20 invites for Google Wave. I am happy to give those away to people who comment about what I should give away. This giveaway is open until 20 people have won or December 20th (this Sunday) which ever comes second. If I have more than 20 people entered by Sunday then I will randomly select 20 winners after the contest ends on Sunday. If not then I will send out invites to … [Read more...]
Sex is Amazing
So I was going to write about this shirt that I love for the blog carnival on "Church" today but I was making a comment at Stuff Christians Like and I realized something about Sex and the Church. We tend to think that inviting people to church is the solution, and what's worse we end up spending most of our time inviting people from other churches to our church so our church will grow. Think about it. It is much easier to invite a Christian to your church than a non-Christian. It is also easier to invite a non-Christian than to lead them to Christ yourself. This is the way the church … [Read more...]
Did I mention I have a tooth phobia?
I love my kids and I love my parents, but somewhere people don't understand a fear I have deep down inside of me. I think it has to do with my mother pulling my teeth when I was young. She tried all the made for sitcom methods of tooth extraction. I really did have my tooth tied to a door knob and other ingenious devices. None of those things worked. The last time I went to her about a loose tooth she came at me with a pair of pliers. Now you have to understand this. When I got my first loose tooth my mother was a dental assistant. You would think that she would have a leg up on other … [Read more...]
mmmm, Steak …. tastes like chicken?
Poor Super Youth Pastor is stuck in limbo as a mysterious enemy threatens him in the hospital. I'll see if he might survive soon but today I want to get the Angel Food update out. This morning we did our pickup and had 55 total boxes ordered. It was more than a little cold but the work went quickly and we got back to the church just a bit behind my planned schedule. Expecting it might take us a few minutes longer because of the distance we had to drive for the pickup I had some people arrive and start setting up for us. Things were mostly setup when we arrived and we started unloading and … [Read more...]
Dress like a youth pastor 30/6: The remix
I am running out of unique ways to describe the sequels here. Now I know why Hollywood comes up with the same boring thing over and over so very often. So we have finally reached head wear. Personally I hardly ever wear anything on my head. I, much like the peach, have hair so I don't really need anything on my head. In fact I have more hair than I really need and so wearing hats can be a bit hot, but I do have a few and I love them even if I don't wear them through most of the summer for fear of heat stroke. Ball Caps: This is the only style of hat I own. I only follow NCAA and High school … [Read more...]
So you think you got game?
OK, so if you've been keeping up you know the drill. Wednesday night is youth night and so I do a follow up post after service. This is that post, introduction over let's move on. Tonight went great. We are still right around the 50 student mark. The sign in sheet is working well and we haven't found the stink. We have started a time of worship with mixed reactions. If you are praying I think that is the big thing that needs prayer. Last week I really told them off. Many students really want this time and I understand if other students don't but they need to be respectful not jerks … [Read more...]
