I think a definition of life probably has something to do with changing. Time is a measurement of movement so I think it is fair to say life is a measurement of change. Don’t believe me? Consider anything that is alive and then show me that it does not change either itself or something around it. It probably changes both.
Things are changing rapidly for me right now. It is exciting and it is scary. I’ve launched into a new aspect of life with getting paid for web design. I have a whole new set of ideas for the future of the youth group. A lot of it is built on existing ideas I had but more clearly defined. I’m a little overwhelmed with it all but also a little frustrated because a lot of the changes are further into the future than I’d like.
We have some pretty significant changes coming to the youth building. I have short term and long term goals for just about everything. When I first looked at the building I began to see what I wanted to do with it. I see the potential of a building in a way that a lot of people I talk to can’t. I can sell them that vision and they will be excited about it but they don’t really see what the end product is. This has happened in most remodel projects I’ve undertaken. Actually it is more than just remodel projects. I’ve found that this kind of ability to see the end product applies to a lot of things in my life.
In a couple of weeks we will be undertaking phase II of the youth building remodel. It is much more involved than phase I was but we are ready to make it happen. I can already see the full completion of the project even though we won’t have everything in place for some time. The major plans will be done and I think the students will be very excited for what the new space will look like. We have a snack shop that is upstairs in the worship space. It is my desire to move all “non-worship” things out of that space so the snack shop is getting moved downstairs. It is a larger area and already has plumbing. We have been debating about bringing a sink upstairs for a while and I haven’t wanted to because I knew the snack shop was going downstairs this whole time. We will be painting it with some nice new colors and I want to eventually get LED wash lights and retro video game systems. I’d even like to get a pinball machine but those can be seriously spendy. I already have a pool table but I need a new felt for it. I’ve never actually set this table up I got it for an incredible price that I couldn’t pass up. All of this will be sectioned off with a chain link fence and gate that will stretch from floor to ceiling. This way we can lock it up during service but still allow students access to the bathrooms. I think the chain link will not only be cheaper than a regular wall but it will look very cool. I am working on a kind of industrial theme for the design and this will really help make that happen.
I plan on taking some pictures of the space as is, the process, and the finished product. We are moving forward at the end of the month if all goes well.
