I keep circling back around on this issue. So many people are so angry and it is making my social media feel like a morass of hatred. It is funny, because as I've grown I've found myself further and further away from the hard right on so many issues. I don't know if this is because I've changed that much, or if the "right" has changed that much. Once upon the time the Republican party was a minority party. That is, they fought for minority rights and also had a minority in the political arena. It is well known that the first Republican president was Abraham Lincoln. He fought a war to free … [Read more...]
Thoughts on a New Pope
A new Pope is a somewhat rare event. It has been 8 years since the last election. By comparison I blog very regularly. Today a new Pope was elected and interestingly I saw some rather painful posts on Facebook. Yes, there are many making fun for various reason but those are not the ones that were painful to me. It is the "Evangelical Christians" I see making comments about how Catholics are idolators and deify the Pope and just how sad all of that is. I'd like to take a moment to thank my RCC friends for taking time to remedy my own ignorance on these issues. See, there was a time that I … [Read more...]
The kids built a blanket fort in the closet then asked to have a sleep over. The boys are sharing the big bed and the girls get to camp out in the closet in their blanket fort. I have to admit they … View Gallery

I had some free time today so I decided to finally get to that project where I convert my personal blog over to the same theme I’m using on my Designs By site. When Tapestry came out (the theme y blog was built around) I thought it was amazing, and Streamline 2.0 is the first theme to come along that looks better as far as I’m concerned.
From a visual perspective I changed very little, but I did import all of those new post format features I had setup last fall. So this has all teh amazing looks of Streamline 2.0 with the Tumblog functionality I want. I’ll probably have some more work to do, but till then, what do you think?
Mashed Potato Snowmen and Snowball fight
I haven't done a Wednesday night round up in a while, so here it goes. I'm bringing a monthly game night to the table and tonight was the kickoff. I was down several students, because of sickness and several are involved in the school play, but I did it anyways. We had the "Winter is over games" and for the opening ceremony I used my t-shirt cannon. Several of the students had never seen it before, so that was a treat. I launched over 30 glow sticks about 40' into the air. It was pretty impressive. Then the opening game was a snowman building competition, but we have had a really crappy … [Read more...]
God Bless Us as We Bless Others
Last week I shared about a family I have come to know that is in need. I put a donation button on my site and asked for help. I didn't know if anyone would give but I've been blessed to see how people responded. That night my heart was heavy. I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking about this family, and then all the other families in need. I know we made a difference for this family. But my heart was crushed at all of the families out there who need more from those who can help. I kept getting up to pray, then trying to sleep, then getting up again. I finally gave up on sleep at 4am and saw … [Read more...]
God Bless Us Everyone
I imagine most people have watched some form of a Christmas Carol in their life. My favorite version is the Muppet's Christmas Carol. It is an annual holiday tradition. We had watched the old VHS tape till it started getting off track and fuzzy so a couple years ago we picked up the movie on DVD. On the off chance that you have never heard of the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, here is a short synopsis. *****Spoiler Alert***** Not sure I'm actually required to do that, over 100 years has come and gone since this classic was written, which I believe is well past the statute of … [Read more...]
Come Holy Spirit, but please on my schedule
I love listening to the stories of how God use to work in church. I might chalk it up to nostalgia or some other such thing, but I can remember God moving in services in a powerful way when I was a teen. I remember going to convention and God taking over the service, or Youth camp and being in the altars all night long. I remember a few chapel services in college where God moved and classes were cancelled for the rest of the day. These experiences don't seem to happen like that any more. Yes, God moved powerfully at ATF this year, but honestly it was just a small taste of what I have … [Read more...]
