I am a pretty busy person. Most of my regular readers know that I am a husband, father of 4 children, youth pastor, founding member of a coalition of youth ministers, and officer of Community Family Life Ministries. I do a lot of other things too. One of the bigger things is the Warren County Coalition. I am on the board for this community groups and volunteer for a lot of different things they do.
The WCC does a lot of things for students and their families in our community. Much of what they do is driven by the grants they are able to get. They spend much of their efforts in two fronts. Prevention, which is split between bullying, tobacco, drugs, and underage drinking, is a very large part of what the Coalition does. Another large part is College prep. They help students that might not go to college do everything from college applications to giving out a “last chance” scholarship.
I have been working on a new website for them in my spare time the past month. The current website is both limited an broken in many places. The new website is dynamic and will have much better back end support. It has several nice features for images and video as well as some fancy event plugins and a few extras that I made for the site on my own.
The basic framework is in place and I’m getting the styling nailed down. Since large portions of the site are built on an existing theme it is taking a while to get every part just right. I am focusing on one element at a time. At this point I have hit a bit of a brick wall. The basic information from the static existing website has been ported over into static pages on the new site. There is a small issue that I have to work out in this based on some changes I made that have caused the site to break in weird ways when viewed in IE. It is still functional it just doesn’t look right. I’ll be working on that little bug soon.
What I need now, though, is some content to get things started. I need some articles that deal with the issues the Coalition is focused on. I have been asking for volunteers on twitter the past couple of days, and I’ve had a few potential offers, but I could really use more help getting this off the ground.
I know several people out there have a lot to say about sending kids off to college, or personal experiences dealing with drugs, underage drinking, tobacco, or other issues facing students today. I would ask that articles be written from the “Esther” point of view. If you don’t know Esther is the only book in the Bible that doesn’t mention God by name. The ideas are all there though. His hand can be seen in everything that happens even if the writer isn’t blatantly shouting “God” from the rooftop. I hope that makes sense.
Please let me know in a comment if you can help out, or email me at NicktheGeek (at) NickGeek (dot) com (you can also use the contact form on my contact page). If you don’t personally feel like you can help please spread the word. I want to make this site a great community portal but that demands frigintastic content.
