One of the best parts of Acquire the Fire is the worship. Over 4000 teens entering God's presence in a single place is an experience that should be had at least once before Heaven. I figure that is what Heaven will be like only exponentially more. People think it is going to be "boring" but the energy and excitement of this kind of worship proves to me that Heaven will be far from boring, even if all we do is have an eternal worship set. Enough generalizations, I want to talk about this event. We start each event with a Youth Pastor break out. It is to get us any special rules, and share … [Read more...]
Archives for May 2011
Just some student messing around before the sessions as the arena was filled up. I had to cut and crop the video to keep one student off screen, not that we are embarrassed, but she needs to be more incognito for safety reasons. That is why some of the shots are kinda short of end quickly. The students had a great time waiting for things to get started and ended up on the big screen a LOT. More than the other groups that were much larger. Yeah the insanity wears off on them. I wish I could have got some footage during worship, they went all out for that too, but the lighting made it impossible.
Rebuilding old junk
This past weekend was Acquire the Fire, and it was one of the best I've been to. I'm working on getting some of our video and photos together, the biggest problem is that one of the students can't be in anything we put online, so I have to do some editing before I can add any of the stuff the student appears in. I can, however, add my personal notes on the event. Friday night Ron Luce spoke. This is the first time I've heard him speak. He related our relationship to God to an experience he had with his son rebuilding an old wreck. The car was in really bad shape, barely a frame to speak … [Read more...]
“ Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return.
Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.
So don’t bother correcting mockers;
they will only hate you.
But correct the wise,
and they will love you.
Instruct the wise,
and they will be even wiser.
Teach the righteous,
and they will learn even more.”
My Selfish Prayer
Yesterday was Star Wars day, today is the national day of prayer, I imaging that it is only a matter of time before the tow days coincide, which will be really cool. Anyways, I want to talk about prayer for a bit. My kids learned to pray pretty early. They fight over who gets to pray over the meal, so we have a schedule and it is very important to keep teh schedule. Even the 2 year old has his turn. His prayer is something like "Tay u Jus, Fud, MAN!!!!" If you don't speak 2 year old this translates to "Thank you Jesus for this food. Amen." I learned to pray when I was very young too. … [Read more...]
Happy Star Wars Day
Today is May 4th, hence "May the fourth be with you" aka "Star Wars Day." Now I wouldn't be a geek without bringing some attention to this, but I want to draw a clear distinction here. I have watched all the Star Wars movies, I enjoyed them, even the ones with Jar Jar Binks. I have memorized many lines, but I'm not super sold that it is the all to end all of SciFi. I have read a few dozen of the books, I'm an avid reader so I was bound to read several. Most are short enough I can knock out a couple a day even on my current schedule. Some of the books are great, some are terrible. I've also … [Read more...]
I Owe You an Apology: Creation of Live V. Spontaneous Generation
In the last part of the "I Owe You an Apology" series, The Creator Revealed, I followed a series of logical arguments to demonstrate that the Creator must be One and must have several characteristics ascribed to the God of the Bible. Before that I allowed Science and Logic to show that the Universe must have been created by a specific type of being. Today I want to focus on the Origin of Life. Of course this whole discussion is a bit of a moot point given the evidence for a Creator, but it is interesting to note the blind faith of atheistic scientists in excluding the possibility of a … [Read more...]
