This past weekend I was blessed to be able to spend time with my wife without the kids. They stayed most of the weekend with some friends and the last several hours before we got home with my parents. We had a great time with the retreat but missed our kids. Today we decided to keep out kids home instead of sending them to school. We had a picnic at the park with them and then let them play for a couple of hours. My oldest is growing up quickly. She can play on every piece of equipment without any help. She knows how to swing, do the monkey bars, climb pretty much anything. All of that … [Read more...]

Close Encounters of the Married Kind
Believe it or not this post is not exactly a red-warning sex post. It is actually about my last weekend and a marriage seminar I attended with my wife. We attended an Assemblies of God Marriage Encounter this past weekend. Now some people might suddenly assume that Mrs_theGeek and I have been having problems. Of course this is true but not in a significant sense of the word. We are married and we are human, this means we have different opinions and occasionally even get grumpy. When you add ministry into it there is a lot of stress so we might even ... fight. Seriously though, we have a … [Read more...]
Went to church and a hockey game broke out
I know it's an old joke, but we had our first real fight at church tonight. It has come close more than once. A couple of weeks ago I had to break something up before it happened. Tonight I was brought in after the damage was done. One of my adult leaders was outside when it happened and got it broken up pretty quickly but it really ticked me off. I stayed calm with the boys, but I feel like it was the steely calm that I am prone to get which people who know me will identify as extreme anger. I talked with both mothers and with the students involved and those that were around. I think it … [Read more...]
This little piece of paper will help you get to Heaven
I am not a huge fan of Gospel tracts. I don't feel that they really work most of the time, but I don't think that is exactly the fault of the concept. I am talking through witnessing with my Young Adult's class. I am giving them a series of challenges each week and then we are talking about how those challenges went. What was effective, what wasn't, and why? I am more interested is teaching a lifestyle of living the Gospel. A life of prayer for the lost and action on that prayer. This week the challenge revolves around Gospel tracts. Everyone was given 3 sets of two different tracts. … [Read more...]
I admit I asked Jon to write a guest post for me ages ago. I’ve written a few for him but he has been too busy with writing his amazing book, which I will be reviewing soon with a very special give away.
Anyways, he is finally giving me the guest post, along with like 130 other people.

Rumors of my demise are greatly …
This time last year I disappeared from the internet for a while as a part of an elaborate prank that still gets some people angry. The prank was really simple at face value. I stole the tires off my dad's SUV in the church parking lot. Then the pranks within pranks began. I got myself arrested on tape for stealing tires. The arrest was the prank I played on my students who were helping me to prank my dad who was in on the prank form the beginning. I had also setup several people online by hinting that my prank might be a bit illegal and that I hoped the cops didn't get involved. Next thing you … [Read more...]
Weekend, we don’t need no stinkin’ weekend.
A lot of things happened this past weekend. So much that I'd likely have a ton of blog posts if I would remember to write them. Of course I'm likely to forget sooner rather than later so I am forced to try and decide what to share. I could write about Angel Food again. This was Angel Food weekend and it was great with a few exceptions. We had a lot of volunteers, several new people came out, but there was a pretty big mix-up on the truck so that caused some stress. I could also write about the annual church business meeting on Sunday. This was quite possibly the highlight of my weekend. I … [Read more...]
To dunk or pass
So it is time for March madness. The thing is, I use to love basketball, but I am just not that into it anymore. I think a big part of it is that I just don't keep up with it. This is why I'm not writing about basketball. Instead I want to deal with something that was brought up in the comments of yesterday's post. Sherry Meneley mentioned that she watched a young lady get baptized that she felt was not ready. As I understand it the young lady behaved in a rather un-repentant manner. I might be understating this because Sherry said she felt that the girl would come up from the water changed … [Read more...]
My St. Patrick’s Day shirt
Tonight was the first night of a new series on the path of Christ to the cross. I focused on Mark chapter 11 and the purpose behind everything that was happening there. Next week one of my students is preaching and I'm pretty excited about that. Today was St Patrick's Day and I wore my special shirt. It is a vintage style shirt with a Rubik's cube on the front. It shows the blue, yellow, and red faces of the cube on a charcoal fabric and white text. If you are having a hard time keeping up the shirt has no visible green. I say no visible green because a Rubik's cube has green on the … [Read more...]
My ways are not your ways
I wonder how hard I make God laugh when I start planning things? I figure my plans must be worth days of entertainment. Of course that's not really much when we are talking about eternity, but still, it sure seems like He would clue me in a bit earlier. Of course I know I can't blame Him. This only happens when I start making my own plans. If I seek God and His plans then I tend to get shockingly accurate details. For example, I've done my sermons a year out the past couple of years. I take time to pray before, not just a quick breath of prayer before my pen hits the paper but days of … [Read more...]
