I briefly mentioned Operation Haiti last week along with a tale of extreme vomiting. If you missed out we are donating half of the money spent in the snack shop over the next month and a half. We are also taking up donations for the Haiti relief effort. I have two really cool updates to this plan.
Last Wednesday I asked a student to design a poster. I got an offer from one of the newer teens and Saturday she brought in the sketch. It looks great. More than that she told me something else she wants to do. She makes bracelets and is planning on making them with a cross and letter beads “O,” “H,” and “♥.” She is going to sell them and donate all the money to Operation Haiti. I think it’s a great idea and totally frigintastic to see her stepping up with what she has to give. I really hope this inspires some other students to look at what they have to offer. I know several that are planning on giving and some very sacrificially so huge shout outs to them too.
The other really amazing thing is that the church has decided to match what the congregation donates in their own push to help out. There were two sizable donations to the church (one anonymous and other other from a estate fund) in the past week so we are able to make this a priority in a season when the church is normally struggling just to pay the bills. The church will be matching fund we bring in through Operation Haiti, which means I get to tell my students that anything they give will be doubled.
When I see the carnage in Haiti I don’t know how I can possibly help. It seems so big, but God called us to be faithful with what we do have. We can make a huge impact if everyone helps with what they have. I have students with little stepping up. I have a church that has been flailing financially stepping up. Are you ready to step up? How has God blessed you so you can help?

I think that is the great thing. We can do something, even if it seems small to us God will use it.

That’s excellent. Keep my sis in law in prayer as she’s going back to Haiti on Monday to help with the relief. I’m so glad she’s is on fire to do that.

Definitely. I’ve been wrestling with trying to get involved with a mission trip to help out.
