It seems most people are interested in books for a give away, but I can't do a plain Jane, boring book giveaway. Instead I am giving away a book with a nice little twist. The book is Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands: People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change by Paul David Trip. It was recommended to me as a giveaway book earlier this week. I warred a bit on giving away a book I currently had or a handful of books that are very high on my "must buy" list but this book jumped out at me. It is well reviewed and the subject is something I've been wrestling with quite a bit. … [Read more...]
What could be more wonderful than peanut butter
OK I imagine there are many things better, but it is amazing for so many reasons. As a quick food Peanut butter is a great quick meal. You can eat it with a spoon right out of the jar if you are really pressed for time, but it doesn't take long to have peanut butter and cracker, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or my favorite peanut butter and honey sandwiches. This brings me to my next point. Tastes great with other foods We all know about the classic PB&J and also the somewhat different peanut butter and banana. There is also the previously mentioned peanut butter and honey. In my … [Read more...]
The lazy twitter update
Yeah, so twitter updates in general are kinda lazy at face value but you really have to do a lot to find all the tweets for the week. You either have to be dedicated to keep a running file of the tweets you intend to use or browse through hundreds of tweets. If you want to be nice and provide the tweets you are replying to then you have to search the comments others have made and it just gets really confusing and hard.I have no intention of doing this so instead I am posting my lazy twitter update and will give a bit of information about the details of the two major threads included on this … [Read more...]
Hey Billy Ray, I found your mullet
After the Giant Sequoias we drove to Eureka. I'll admit I didn't expect the SciFi (or should I say SyFy) show. I didn't expect what I found either. Eureka is a decent sized coastal town in Northern California. I expected it to be about the same as all the other decent sized coastal towns I had been to in CA. What I got was a town that was more hick than any I had been to in a long time.We went to the mall, which was actually a pretty nice mall. That made the next part even more shocking. I walked into a mullet convention. Seriously I saw like 10 mullets. I haven't seen that many … [Read more...]
I don't know how to make a title from my cell phone
I have been tweeting from my phone for a while now. Today I am writing my first mobile blog.Of course I won't be doing this often but on weeks like the last few I can make small updates about what I'm doing.Right now I am making fajitas for dinner. I an cooking them on the grill because they are better that way. Dr Awesome would be proud. The thing is I am waiting for the timer and feeling pretty impatient. In a society where I can write to the world while I an cooking there should be no boredom, but I am. I think that tells up a lot about what is wrong with us. What do you think? … [Read more...]
Who is searching for me?
Over on Katdish's blog Hey Look a Chicken she posted about her top searches that landed people on her site. I thought I show who comes by here. I think it is worth comparing the two lists. You will notice, for example, that no one gets here by searching for Annie K.' boobs or Helen's butt crack. In fact it seems I somehow attract a much more classy group over all. Let me offer my most sincere apologies. I don't know how the search engine sends you this way but you deserve better.i learned a lot in my marriage counseling classmy experiences about loveis ADHD genetictruly he is risen … [Read more...]
Valour as learned in 80's cartoons.
I loved most of the "boy" shows on TV in the 80s, but He Man was in the top 5. If you are familiar with the show, there is a man, Prince Adam, with a scardy cat of a tiger, Cringer, who had to defend the secrets of Castle Grayskull from Skeletor. Pretty straight forward for a show with a bit less than imaginative names.Anyways, when it was time for battle Prince Adam could raise his power sword and shout "by the power of Grayskull I am He-man." Then he would turn into a powerful warrior and his cowardly tiger would become the valorous Battle Cat.Of course, there is no sword for us to raise … [Read more...]
Sharing is caring, but not always
I grew up in the 80s and so learned a lot from watching 80's cartoons. In fact I think almost everything I learned can be summed up in 80's cartoons. I usually watched the good cartoons like He Man, Thundercats, GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and other shows like those. I did occasionally watch the other cartoons because it was too rainy or I was sick or for some other reason I couldn't go play but could watch cartoons. On those occasions I would watch whatever came on including Care Bears, which is where today's lesson comes from.Sharing is a very important lesson for kids to learn. … [Read more...]
My Poor Hands
Over on The Fellowship of the Traveling Smarty Pants Candace Jean July 16 posted a blog about a man who has a prosthetic finger with a built in USB drive titled Does NtG Have a Motorcycle? "Or table saw?" is written at the end of the post. I'm afraid I have both and have also experienced some pretty bad hand injuries over a few years when I was a carpenter. I thought it would be fun to review some of them. The first major injury was a couple months after I became a carpenter. I needed to plan the edge of a door down using a power hand planer. I didn't feel like taking the door down making a … [Read more...]
And so it starts
I try to avoid politics on this blog. I have made very few political comments and most of those few are highly sarcastic even if rooted in my true feelings. For example, these are two posts I made on the Presidential election last fall.I'm Voting for ChangeVoting Against a CandidateAnyways, in both of these I said we had a broken system in which candidates can make all kinds of promises but really only end up focusing on the money. I think we can see the truth in that now, but that isn't really the point of this post. I was reading an article about the $165 million in bonuses AIG has paid … [Read more...]
