In reply to <a href="https://nickgeek.com/stealing-other-successful-ideas/#comment-5">Nicodemus at Nite</a>.

I went to a church where that happened once. The church was growing in leaps and bounds. They were getting ready to move into a new facility. Honestly I"m not sure why they were growing based on my experience. I couldn't find parking so we had to park across a busy street and then walk across with 2 young children. When I got there the place was full and I walked around trying to find a seat but couldn't see anything. As I was getting frustrated and walked out an usher finally asked if I needed help. I had walked past several ushers who were too busy talking to help out.

Finally the service got started and things were looking good. We had a nice worship experience then the pastor started talking about the building project. He spent 45 minutes showing pictures and other crap ... they were moving into the new building the following week so I'm not sure why they needed 45 minutes of pictures. Then he started his sermon with "I was going to preach on ... but God just changed my sermon on my so forgive me if I seem unprepared." Yeah ... I just have a hard time with that concept. I"m not saying God can't or doesn't do that but I feel like there is no reason to tell everyone or apologize about anything, plus I got the impression that this guy often had God changing his sermons. Some people think that is a sign of being really in tune with God but I figure it means either very unprepared or not checking in with God to start with. I pray about sermons a year in advance and you would be surprised how relevant they are, even to the point of feeling like certain dates need left open only to find that I'm not preaching for whatever reason on those dates. Events, weather, vacation, not of which I knew about when planning.

I know what you mean. I visited a church in NJ and their intentions were good but they were so focused on getting the perfect website so outsiders could come and join the church. The pastor spent literally 20 minutes showing the new website. To me it seemed like a waste of time instead of preaching the gospel. Sure, every church wants to be culturally relevant but to the extent of hurting your own church family by not feeding them is damaging. (Not you, in general)

A few people might have saw how many people attended X church and saw that they had an awesome website and tried to copy it. It's just frustrating sometimes, we think too hard instead of just speaking the word of God and living holy godly lives.
