They asked what I'd do once. I don't think they wanted to hear my opinion after that. It was the one about the cousin joining a gang and robbing the store. I told them that everyone was worried about how it affected themselves and their friends but no one thought about the cousin. I would do everything I could to help the cousin because this is a broken person that needs help. They were uncomfortable with that response and asked what I did. After listing all the things I'm involved with one girl said "so I guess you are a do gooder?" I guess I am but someone has to do those things or the world would be even worse.

It's those moments when you truly discover who you are – and what you're made of. But then what's the difference between that and the time you were 'too busy' to stop and help someone whose car had broken down, or didn't have enough money to give a hungry man some food or couldn't make time to visit the sick etc etc. Great, thought provoking post.

I really hope that in such a situation, I'd choose to help. I really hope that is who I am. Not that I'd be climbing Everest, but in whatever it's prairieland equivalent would be…You know what I mean.
