Excellent analogy, particularly considering the bridal imagery that Christ uses in regards to his relation with the church. Sparked some kind of odd thoughts on how we could apply Song of Solomon to evangelism.

I totally agree with your main point. Flat-out asking someone to go to church without showing them through your example why Christianity is good is like asking a girl to marry you without courting (dating, wooing, whatever) her first. Our primary witness is our lives. As we build for Christ's kingdom, we show the world how beautiful it is.

I'm stalking you Nick. :-p. I was looking forward to more excerpts from your writing exercise to edit and provide feedback on, but alas it was not meant to be. But seriously if you ever do decide to explore your writing again, I would be happy to assist in anyway possible. My payment plan is simple - if and when you do get published I would need an autographed copy from the first printing.

Take Care,

I'd like to point out that I should have paid more attention in Lit. I had portions of this confused with Hemingway, who probably should have paid more attention to the message herein. For some reason I also though this had something to do with Poe. More importantly I had never read this in it's entirety, only the first few lines from this excerpt. You should follow the link and read the opening paragraph. I, for one, find this to be a very good piece, worthy of much more than the oft poorly quoted and ill remembered history I have with it.

Hi Nick,

I guess as parents one of the big "Why?!!" moments is when your child is injured or gets sick. I found reading this post by the Mum of a really sick young lad heartening :)

I think God wants us to ask questions. He was us to inquire about His will and His plan. But he also obsessed with trust. He wants us to trust Him.

I've cried out, "Why?" before but I try to never seperate that question from my trust in Him. I feel that even when I ask God that question His answer is always, "Trust me, I'm preparing you for something."

Sarah, Thanks for sharing. Some really good thoughts. I especially like the last point that knowing doesn't really lessen the pain.

I used to refuse to allow myself to ask the question... Because even as I'd think, "Why?" I'd hear the echo of "Why not?"

I think the most common "Why?" for me is "Why do bad things happen to me?" or "Why do certain people mistreat me?" And sadly, the answer that I keep coming back to is that I deserve it and that I'm not worthy of anything better. Most days, I know that's not true, but it is what I keep coming back to. I know all of the "good" answers, like, "People have free will to mistreat you." or "One day, you'll be able to bless people that have been in the same places you've been." or "It's not your fault. It's their problem." But honestly, knowing those things doesn't actually lessen the pain.

Hi, thanks for putting this blog up & sharing your journey! I've just started a 21 day juice fast. It was really helpful to see what the significance of 21 was! Its also good to see other people fasting also! I definatly believe God desires His bride to be closer to him! God bless you!
