I spent the day at the Apple Blossom Festival. I just want to say that spending all day looking at crafts is not in my top 10, not even close. Normally I will do pretty much anything to avoid it. However, spending all day with my family is in my top 10, even if it means looking at crafts all day. The day was just gorgeous, 70 degrees and sunny. My oldest son was at another event and my …

Some months, well actually years, ago we began a quest for a new to us vehicle. We had certain requirements of this vehicle. It must have room for the family, which limited us to vans, minivans, and certain SUVs with a third row. It also much have better than 25mpg fuel economy, which basically narrowed it down to just tow vehicles. The Mazda 5 and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We looked into …

Had one of those weird waking dreams just as I fell asleep last night. Usually it takes a while before I hit dream level sleep, but last night I think my eyes were still open as I saw two guys walking through the wall I was facing then one pointed a gun or something at me. I yelled “Holy Frak!!” Not in my dream I actually yelled it. Freaked out my wife big time.

So it turns out my dreams must have a network censor or something.

Almost 12 years ago I married the love of my life. We had a wedding photographer we affectionately call the wedding Nazi. I'm not a big Seinfeld fan, but I've seen a few episodes. In one there is a "soup Nazi." You might be familiar with the line "No soup for you!" That is what this photographer was like. His assistant tried to burn the place down, knocked over a candelabra while trying to get …

I do, I did, I should: Weddings, Marriage, and Counseling

wedding1

Almost 12 years ago I married the love of my life. We had been dating for 4 years and we were both so very young. I was 20 and my bride was 19. Just a couple of weeks before our wedding she picked her mom up from school (her mom is a teacher) and school officials tried making her ride home on the bus thinking she was a student. If this were a high school that might seem reasonable, but since this was an elementary school that seems quite disturbing. I had 3 years of college under my belt … [Read more...]

Close Encounters of the Married Kind

couplhrt-251x300

Believe it or not this post is not exactly a red-warning sex post. It is actually about my last weekend and a marriage seminar I attended with my wife. We attended an Assemblies of God Marriage Encounter this past weekend. Now some people might suddenly assume that Mrs_theGeek and I have been having problems. Of course this is true but not in a significant sense of the word. We are married and we are human, this means we have different opinions and occasionally even get grumpy. When you add … [Read more...]

Something that sticks.

Youth this week was very full. I don't mean student-wise. I totally didn't count the students. I'm really bad about that. The subject was really deep and we covered a lot. I saw some comments on MySpace that make me feel like I should share about a specific part of the service. I've started showing more videos because they help to illustrate my points in some pretty spectacular ways. This past week we watched this video: A couple of the students were asking what it meant and I explained it. I … [Read more...]

Percy Jackson and the Plot Thief

Percy-Jackson1-202x300

I watched Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief last night. If you are thinking about watching it, then I'll do my best to avoid spoilers. It is a good movie but the basic plot is a rehash of The Clash of the Titans which is more or less the story of Perseus and some feats he accomplishes as told by various ancient Greek sources. Of course that is kind of the whole point so I guess it isn't right so poke fun at the fact that this plot is totally hijacked. The obstacles that … [Read more...]

Love v Lust Remix

love-lust

Today’s title bout features two super heavy weights in the emotions that drive us. I wrote the following for our local paper on behalf of another organization that submits a weekly column to the paper. ***For one human being to love another that is perhaps the most difficult of our tasks; the ultimate, the last test and proof; the work for which all other work is but preparation. ~Rainer Maria RilkeLove is eternal where lust is temporary. This is a plain and apparent fact as easily seen … [Read more...]

Growing Not Young Together

wedding-kiss

It seems unfair that I only have one post currently marked as "My Experience As a Husband" considering that this is one of the biggest parts of my life. I love my wife dearly. We have been married for 10 years now and going strong. This Monday my wife will be celebrating her 30th anniversary of birth. Of course this is 29 the sequel as my wife insists she is not turning 30. I guess it is time for an introduction. My bride is Susan. She is not a geek, but she does love Science Fiction and … [Read more...]
